The LAMQG held a swap last night that was really fun. Everyone brought in a sandwich bag of scraps and we swapped them at our September meeting. We were allowed to add one new fabric to the scraps and could make whatever we wanted.
I got Andrew‘s scraps and made him a pillow! I really took advantage of being able to add one fabric and added the blue – a Carolina Chambray half yard I’d picked up.
The quilting is fun and easy. I think I’ll be exploring free motion with straight lines a lot more. I don’t deal with the pulling issue my machine gives me with long straight lines with my walking foot, but I get the same modern feel. Win win!
We swapped back our finished projects at last night’s guild meeting, which was our 1 year anniversary! We had a really fun party style meeting. Can you all believe that the Guild has only been around for 1 year?? It’s amazing how much we’ve grown in that time. I’ll blog all about the meeting soon!

Hi Alexandra! Thanks! Since it’s free motion, I control the stitch length when I move the quilt (in this case pillow) through my machine. It’s just a matter of practice to get even stitches.

I love the pillow!! Great design for quilting. I just read something about adjusting the pressure on your presser foot – could that be “pulling issue” you have with your walking foot/machine? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ox8qRhWF3CI I was looking for advice on straight line quilting and never realized that the pressure on the foot could be adjusted – that is why my lines are puckering!
Your pillow design is truly modern and the quilting compliments the patchwork beautifully! I bet Andrew was in love at first sight!
The pulling issue with the walking foot might be due to the pressure setting for your presser foot, I had some issues that (seemingly magically) resolved with an adjustment.
Love the pillow – the quilting’s very quirky and adds a modern touch. Love the chambray too – I love working with chambray for a rustic, homely feel.

I belong to the Portland Modern Quilt Guild, we’ve done lots of swaps! So far, a potholder swap, hexagon, something else I can’t remember right now and this coming meeting we’re doing a pincushion swap! so fun to give and get and see all the wonderful things that people make!
