Hi Alissa,
I love your quilts! Do you use muslin for your white backgrounds? Another kind of cotton?
Thx,
Jody
Thank you Jody! I tend to use kona cotton for my whites. It’s a bit thicker than muslin which I like.

Hi Alissa–
I was searching for coin quilts and by chance, found your website. I am totally impressed and inspired. Mostly because you remind me of me! I quilt and sew stuff in my free time, and am self-taught–searching the internet for ideas! Unfortunately I don’t have your taste for fabric and style…
Do you mind sharing where you get your fabrics? They’re beautiful!… and so are all your projects!
Do you do craft fairs?

I had no idea how quilt talented you are. I thought I’d poke around and view some of your masterpieces. I’ll put money down for a Jay-Z quilt.
Good stuff.
Hi Alissa,
I have just discovered your blog and I am totally inspired by your prolificness and the absolutely divine quilts you make.
Keep blogging and I’ll keep visiting.
Thanks.
Andi
Alissa–
You certainly have an eye for design and how to put bits together. Thank you for the inspiration. I am new to the sewing world and quilting, but I am hooked and love it and I am also self taught. I was wondering, do you personally wash your fabric before you start a project, or not? And do you use cotton or polyester thread? And what sort of batting do YOU prefer? I have been asking around and reading books, everybody has their preferences and I was wondering if you might share yours. Thank you SO much! I cannot wait to see your creations for 2009!
Hi Emily! Thanks for your kind words about my quilts! To answer your questions, I don’t prewash my fabrics UNLESS they are red or I don’t know where they come from. Vintage or given to me, I’m going to prewash, a nice order of new fabric I don’t bother… I use 100% cotton thread for both piecing and quilting and the batting I like best is Warm & Natural or Warm & White.

I love your work. Where do you buy your fabric? I love Japanese prints but don’t want to pay a fortune for shipping… please help.
Now I understand how you get the time…only a husband, dog and two cats to look after!! Having time to do what you do is part of my favourite dream!! Keep up the fab work – I hope you have lots of success with your etsy shop, too!
Best wishes from Australia,
Karen
I’m curious if you can reccomend a good block pattern that will mess with my son’s eyes without being overstimulating. He’s the only one left that I haven’t made a lap quilt for. I need some inspiration.
