Hi everyone! Have you seen the latest issue of American Quilter Magazine?
There’s a big article in there about The Modern Quilt Guild and how Latifah and I started it!
It’s a great article! I love to see a traditional quilting magazine directly acknowledge the difference between modern and traditional quilters with a very positive and accepting “there’s room for all of us” sort of approach.
This has always been my personal feeling as well (I truly can’t comprehend some of the feelings out there – in either direction – we’re all quilters and most of the world thinks we’re all lame!) and it thrills me to see it reflected in the pages of a traditional quilting magazine. I thought I’d post the entirety of Christine Brown’s (the magazine’s editor) intro to the the issue because I truly appreciate what she has to say.
Hope you all have a great week. I know I will because I’ve finished up my latest freelance job and I’m back to sewing sewing sewing!!

Thanks Alissa for sharing the Editor’s Intro. She’s hit the nail on the head.
That is terrific! I love her point of view and open-mindedness. I’ll definitely be looking to pick up that issue. Congrats~!
That was very encouraging to see! I appreciated her editorial.
Hey, that’s awesome!
Oh my goodness! Its fabulous they’re acknowledging the MQG!!! I may have to pick up that Magazine, although it normally wouldn’t appeal to my “modern” taste
Yay for everyone playing together nicely!
Awesome! I’ll have to pick up a copy. I can’t thank you and Latifah enough for starting the MQG. You are both amazing. Congratulations on the article!
Right on! My hat is tipped in respect and gratitude to Alissa and Latifa for having the courage and forethought to forge a new road thereby creating a new community for “Modern” Quilters” everywhere. This is one Baby Boomer that will be eternally grateful for their creative vision. And as the editor says it make economic sense also for the future of quilting to acknowledge this freedom through simplicity.
Congratulations at being in the article, and thanks for sharing Christine’s comments…I am younger than the baby boomers, and definitely enjoy the creativity and spontaneity in “modern” quilts!!! Happy quilting!
Congratulations on the article! How wonderful for this long standing and respected publication, which has it’s roots and readership primarily attached to tradition, pattern and technique, embracing and supporting the Modern Quilt movement. I adore that the editor states, “There’s room for all of us here”. Amen!
I saw this article and really appreciated it as well.
I was also excited that my modern quilt was selected as the first place winner of its category at the AQS Paducah show – see page 79. I appreciate their openness to new styles!
Absolutely wonderful intro, I never thought I’d say this; but I think I’m going to have to go and pick up this magazine simply because of the article.
You don’t know it; but I Thank you and Latifah every month when I host my MQG meetings. It has made such a difference in my life and honestly in the lives of several of my members.
Keep up the good work!!
great editiorial by Christine, that really is something! and congrats on the article and the very sweet picture, thanks so much for sharing, i would never gotten hold of this
Claudia
I’m a boomer and I still say “Amen!” Every month I’m inspired by the abilities and enthusiasm of the younger quilters at our guild meeting.
Alissa – loved the editorial/article. I am a proud member of the LAMQG and this is just the beginning of amazing things to come!
Congratulations Alissa so much has happened for you since I last visited your blog I’ll have to check back more often. Your blog has inspired me and taught me alot about quilting. I just finished quilting a huge quilt for my brother which I never would have even attempted if I hadn’t found your blog and so many other quilting blogs. Wish we had a MQG in Melbourne, Australia or maybe there is one. If you know of one can you let me know details. I would love to buy your book when will it be available and where can I buy it. All the best Carol
Perfect editorial! As a member of generation X (only just! I’m on the “cusp” of Y) I have puzzled over why younger quilters are not being welcomed into the craft with open arms. Also, the magazine looks amazing – I’ll have to see if I can get a copy shipped!
This is awesome! Congrats on the article, and thanks for sharing the editor’s intro with us. I heartily agree that there is room for all of us and am happy to hear an acknowledgement of the modern quilt movement from the traditional side!
Congrats. Off to look for the mag today. Look forward to the tour.
