The finished hexagon quilt! Finally!!
I went back and looked, and the first photo I have of the beginnings of this quilt is from July 24th. And today is September 28th. Two months it took me to make this quilt. For me, that is a long time. Now it would be one thing if I’d done a ton of sewing otherwise, but I kinda haven’t. The odd quilting bee block here or there, but otherwise? Not much sewing! Lesson I’ve learned? Don’t start a huge quilt when you’re going to be working a lot. Tackle smaller quilts and that way it’s easier to get a project finished and feel that needed sense of accomplishment!
But anyhow – the quilt!
It’s 80″ by 88″ – a full sized quilt, but it’s on a queen sized bed in the above photo.
Some details…
The pebble quilting, which I’ll never do on a quilt this big again (it took SO long!) really works on this simple pattern. I love it. Especially after the wash and crinkle…
Love how the deer pop since I’ve otherwise used smaller scale prints.
I used the Wonderland polka dots for the binding.
The back – sorry for a kinda dark photo. The brown reads darker in this photo than it actually is.
It’s actually more like this:
I love this quilt. I do. But it was a huge project to get it all finished. No more hexagons or pebble quilting for me for a long time. Improv piecing and stippling, here I come!
It’s for sale in my shop.

It looks amazing! So beautiful.
All that work and you are selling it? Strong and brave. Looks great!
Lovely! Its turned out great!
What a gorgeous finish!
I can’t believe your selling it! It looks great on your bed. Beautiful job, Alissa. I love how two months is a long time to finish a quilt for you, btw.
I can’t believe you are selling it either! Wow, it’s gorgeous. I wish I could buy it, I really do love it. (my mom took 19 years to finish a quilt, so don’t feel bad about 2 months)
It’s simply stunning. The pebble quilting is perfect for it, even if it was a long labor of love. I can’t believe you are able to part with this one, but someone will surely treasure it.
This looks awesome! I have the same trouble with biting off big projects when I have lots at work, but you seem to have ended up with a great end result!!
It looks amazing Alissa – the quilting is fantastic…haven’t tried that technique yet but soon (and on a small quilt!). Isn’t it nice to get a huge project done?!
This is beyond gorgeous! So worth all of your time and effort!
Well done on such an achievement! It looks amazing especially with the pebble quilting. I love it! I know what you mean about it taking forever, I found that with stippling a single quilt!! Little ones are so lovely to do aren’t they? Can wait to see what your next quilt will be.
It looks fabulous! I just started pebble quilting a big quilt yesterday… so yeah… it’s gonna take awhile. Yours turned out beautiful.
This is amazing and beautiful. I love the circles. i tried to do them and I have not gotten the hang of it yet but keep trying.
Great quilt! Love the colors.
I love how the pebble quilting shows up on the back. I know it took you a long time, but really nice work lady!!
That is beyond beautiful.
Awesome!!
It’s absolutely gorgeous! When I finally do attempt pebble quilting, it’ll definitely be on a baby quilt or smaller!
oh alissa, it’s gorgeous! I love the large hexagons, and the pebble quilting is just perfect! I can only imagine how much work that was! I keep thinking I want to try it, but I think (like Amber) that I’ll stick to trying it on something small! Anyway, it’s absolutely beautiful!! great work!
Oh I love this quilt! The hexagon looks so complicated! I won’t be diving into that for a while! The pebble quilting is fab too! I need to practice that myself!
it looks beautiful. That quilting DOES look like it took a long time! Good job!
Really gorgeous.
Love the pebble quilting.
Andi
It’s beautiful!
Two months? For me will be two years!Very well done.
This is gorgeous! I love all the fabrics, and the pebble quilting. I’m hesitant to even quilt my own quilts, let alone tackle something this large and detailed!
Well done, girl, well done!
this looks fabulous..how can you part with it!
This is an incredible quilt! I love the pebble stitching.
P.S. I love the curtain fabric in the top photo!
Gorgeous quilt and fabulous quilting!
It’s gorgeous!!
An amazing effort. Such a stunning quilt, so much work and I can see why you won’t be pebbling for a while
Your quilt is simply divine – I especially love the quilting, great work!
I love the finishing. I am planning on a grandmother quilt myself using the paper piecing and this will give me an idea of how it looks like. But I still have a long way to go to reach that stage.
Amazing finish! I can’t believe you plan to part with it! Love that dot on the binding
Excellent choice for the quilting pattern. I’m going to have to try pebbling. The stitching shows up so nicely on these simple blocks and especially on the backing. Good Job.
Congrats on finishing the quilt. I just found your blog thru Urban patchwork. I watched your video on how you did the pebble quilting and could not believe you were able to do it without wearing some type of gripping gloves. I were gloves always when I machine quilt and it just helps you to move the fabric.
I LOVE it! Looks so great! I did a quilt that fits just the top of a full sized bed (super sized throw basically) using a non uniform pebble stitch, and that took forever! I think I almost started crying when I stopped and realized just how little I’d finished every day LOL Even after I saw your posts about how long it takes, I still did it. Never again!! So I understand your pain!
great job, alissa. good for you for sticking with it! i LOVE that you put it up for a good price too…though you’re probably paying yourself a dollar an hour or so.
Very nicely done! And I just love a nice polka dot binding!
I LOVE your hexagon quilt!
Love the quilt and esp the quilting… must have taken a loooong time to quilt!
i love it ….especially the quilting and the back.
Is it a half hexagon style quilt? I did one earlier this year and am about to do a larger hexagon one in the half hexies.
