Boy!

So! I found out that we’re having a boy! I’ll admit that I was thrown for a serious loop because for a number of reasons I’ve had nothing but girls on the brain the whole time I’ve been pregnant. But the surprise made finding out much more exciting than I’d expected it to be. I was just (stupidly) pretty certain it was a girl so it really was a huge surprise!

Of course I instantly had to pull some fabric for a baby quilt for MY baby!

I’m off the the 2nd annual LAMQG retreat today (four days of sewing with friends! What could be better??) and I hope to get something started. I’ve got lots of other projects to work on too…

And otherwise, I did some blog/pinterest/google searching and there just aren’t that many cute boy tutorials out there, are there? I’ve heard this from lots of moms but hadn’t experienced it first hand. So tell me, what’s your favorite pattern or tutorial for boy stuff? I wanna make this kid more than quilts!

A few years back I made these quilts for some twin baby girls…

Not much like what I’m doing these days, huh? Well the twins are lucky enough to have welcomed a younger sister into the world, and their parents requested a new quilt in the same colors. I don’t have a lot of those fabrics anymore, but I have some… so I pulled a bunch of pinks and greens.

We’ll see what I come up with!

Some new fabric

My mother was in Japan recently and was nice enough to bring me back some fabric! I didn’t even put in a request – she just knows me! (I did inherit my love of fabric from her after all…)

My favorites are these cats, bunnies and owls.

I mean that lil’ grey striped cat?? Seriously! These are definitely going to be used in some baby quilts!

Now it’s not every day that I go bonkers for a fabric, but now and then, some comes along that makes me feel faint. These latest arrivals at Sew Modern, Yoshiko Jinzenji’s fabrics, are some of those!

The second they showed up in the shop I snagged two yards of each. They are so unique and gorgeous.

So awhile back I promised myself that I wouldn’t blog about not blogging and here I am breaking that promise. Being freelance with my work, my quilting free time ebbs and flows. After a very long time just quilting a ton (mostly stuff I can’t post here!), on Monday I started back up on a job. So I’m in an ebb and I will be for about three months. I’ll miss my sewing machine but the paychecks will ease the pain.

Meanwhile, the fabrics for the next quilt have been pulled!

Oh gray – why can’t I quit you?!?

Can’t wait to get cutting and sewing this weekend!

I am loving these Kaffe Fassett woven strips right now.

Mixed with some Carolina Chambray blues. Something good is going to come from this… I can feel it!

I’ve been less and less into patterned fabric over the past few months… but occasionally I’ll come across one that is just everything I love.

The colors, the random placement of the lines… the slight waviness. I just love it.

I picked this up at a local fabric shop and it hadn’t been on my radar previously. Now I just need to figure out how I’m going to use it!
