Busy!

First thank you so much for all of your congrats on the fact that I’m having a boy! And your feedback on boy sewing patterns was so great. So many replies that I’ll be certain to put together a list and post it in the next few days. Other people must want that info too!

It’s been a busy week over here! The LAMQG’s retreat was a ball.

Aside from doing loads and loads of quilting, I made teeny tiny pants!

I used the quick change trousers pattern from Anna Maria Horner’s book “Handmade Beginnings.” They sewed up so quickly and are so cute with little yoke on the butt.

And it worked out well that it was Anna Maria’s pattern I was sewing with because she came to speak to the LAMQG early this week.

What an inspirational woman she is! So filled with passion, talent and a love for what she does. And she does so much! It was very motivating and encouraging to see someone who clearly loves her work and is so driven. Plus she’s just downright nice.

I’m back to my day job on Monday. The new schedule is going to take some getting used to but I’m certainly going to try to keep up with the sewing and blogging.

Some gift sewing

Only had to make one gift for Christmas this year. A set of place mats!

I went ahead and used my pattern that I posted a while back.

They sew up so quickly and easily! I used a Moda Crossweaves as the background and three different shot cottons for the lines. I’m addicted to these solids that have some added texture… I wish I had every color there is!

The news in my world…

…is that I’m pregnant!! Needless to say, we’re very excited over here. Though it’s been a rough couple of months. Boy did that “morning” (WTF with that term?!? it’s all. freakin’. day. long.) sickness knock me out. I completely lost my sewing mojo and it has been getting me down.

But things are getting better now! I’ve been feeling better and have actually been able to get myself into the sewing room a bit more. We still have to wait about a month to know if it’s a boy or a girl and then the baby sewing is certain to start in full force!

And because I can’t post with no photo at all… Here’s a couple of ornaments I recently sewed up for an LAMQG swap.

A scarf in Stitch and a giveaway

Oh hey! Some work of mine is in the latest Stitch!

I’ll go ahead and say it: I don’t think wearables and quilted go together. Pretty much ever. So when Stitch asked me to make a scarf for the Spring 2011 issue I was daunted. I wasn’t required to make it quilted, but hell, I’m a quilter. So I tackled the task and think that I did alright at making something ok!

I used flannel in the middle to make it have more of a flexible drape than batting would have given it.

I got a new chair for my sewing room, so it needed a new pillow!

A great swap!

The LAMQG held a swap last night that was really fun. Everyone brought in a sandwich bag of scraps and we swapped them at our September meeting. We were allowed to add one new fabric to the scraps and could make whatever we wanted.

I got Andrew‘s scraps and made him a pillow! I really took advantage of being able to add one fabric and added the blue – a Carolina Chambray half yard I’d picked up.

The quilting is fun and easy. I think I’ll be exploring free motion with straight lines a lot more. I don’t deal with the pulling issue my machine gives me with long straight lines with my walking foot, but I get the same modern feel. Win win!

We swapped back our finished projects at last night’s guild meeting, which was our 1 year anniversary! We had a really fun party style meeting. Can you all believe that the Guild has only been around for 1 year?? It’s amazing how much we’ve grown in that time. I’ll blog all about the meeting soon!

Placemats

For my sister’s Christmas gift, I made her a set of placemats.

I made six of ‘em but there were only four of us for Christmas dinner so here’s the table at the beginnings of being set. I’d show it to you all set, but then you can’t see the placemats! I have to say, I’m very happy with how these came out.

Why is it so hard to photograph dark brown and have it read true? The placemats are 14″ x 16″ and I did some straight line quilting on them to keep them smooth and modern looking. My sister loves them and they look great in her house!

Fall?

So fall was here. And then it got replaced by summer again. LA weather is weird. Anyhow – to stay in the fall spirit I quickly whipped up this pillow sleeve.

The deer get all the props in Lush, but you can’t deny the trees! That said, I couldn’t leave the deer out entirely…

I’m still working away at the Lantern Bloom quilt. Only a few more blocks and then it’s time to move onto the back. It was fun to make and finish a small project since it’s been two bed sized quilts in a row. Ok – I’m back at it!
