Just finished up this quilt top yesterday. I’m so happy that I’m feeling better and am wanting to get back into the sewing room again these days!
I went the extra mile with this top and sewed it up using Y seams. I only wanted pieced seams where it made sense in terms of the weave of the plaid … Though I’m gonna go ahead and call it: Y seams are a pain! But I’m really happy with the end result
I also matched up the stripy fabric in the one place where it had to be pieced. And now I need to quilt it!!

Beautiful! I have never done Y seams, and avoid designs where I feel like they would be necessary. It was totally worth it on this quilt — it’s gorgeous! And you’re inspiring me not to be such a wimp and do the Y seams (occasionally).

What a great quilt! I think it’s awesome that you did the extra work with the Y-seams so it would be really crossweave-ey.
I just started sewing a little over a year ago, and it’s become quite the hobby. I came across your site after reading Block Party and really love your work! I was actually just looking through your tutorials and fell in love with the quilting and the stripey fabric on the pillow you did for Janome – and then when I saw this post, it seemed that you had used the same stripey fabric! Any chance you could share what it is?

I do like this quilt. I like the simplicity, yet the complexity of the design – if it’s possible to have both. Very lovely! And well worth the pain of Y seams. Congrats on getting the top done. Doesn’t it feel good?

Wow, amazing! I can’t imagine how much time and planning it took for all those partial seams, but the result is spectacular! I love how you even matched the print pattern when it needed to be pieced.
