Just finished up this quilt top yesterday. I’m so happy that I’m feeling better and am wanting to get back into the sewing room again these days!
I went the extra mile with this top and sewed it up using Y seams. I only wanted pieced seams where it made sense in terms of the weave of the plaid … Though I’m gonna go ahead and call it: Y seams are a pain! But I’m really happy with the end result
I also matched up the stripy fabric in the one place where it had to be pieced. And now I need to quilt it!!

Love it!
Love it! The grey and curry combo is one of my favorites – and the weaving effect too
Oh Alissa that is gorgeous yet again. So pleased to hear that you are feeling more yourself again xx
Beautiful! I have never done Y seams, and avoid designs where I feel like they would be necessary. It was totally worth it on this quilt — it’s gorgeous! And you’re inspiring me not to be such a wimp and do the Y seams (occasionally).
Awesome. I’ve never tried Y seams. This quilt reminds me that I want to give your placemat pattern a try!
Beautiful! You really have an eye for both design and color! What are Y seams?

YAY!!!! It’s a lovely quilt for sure – well done for the first of many to come this year.
Beautiful quilt! Love it. It’s so clean and sharp, the intersecting rectangles and the asymmetry are so interesting. Reminds me of Bauhaus.
Great work!!
Love this! Great job!!
Seriously! This is FANTASTIC! Great job, I love the colors to.
Absolutely love this Alissa!!!!
What a great quilt! I think it’s awesome that you did the extra work with the Y-seams so it would be really crossweave-ey.
I just started sewing a little over a year ago, and it’s become quite the hobby. I came across your site after reading Block Party and really love your work! I was actually just looking through your tutorials and fell in love with the quilting and the stripey fabric on the pillow you did for Janome – and then when I saw this post, it seemed that you had used the same stripey fabric! Any chance you could share what it is?
PS – Congrats on your little-one-on-the-way
I am also expecting my first (in early June) and am anxious to get started on some projects!
I’m glad to hear you’re feeling better.
I do like this quilt. I like the simplicity, yet the complexity of the design – if it’s possible to have both. Very lovely! And well worth the pain of Y seams. Congrats on getting the top done. Doesn’t it feel good?
Gorgeous as always Alissa!
I love the overlapping effects – looks awesome and well worth the effort! Glad you’re feeling better, too.
Beautiful quilt!! I need to sew with more solids. What are Y seams?
spectacular alissa!!!! completely unexpected how you created texture…
Absolutely gorgeous! I’ve been collecting greys and yellows to make a quilt sometime this year. Love your plaid!
That’s great!! I really love the design! Glad you’re feeling better!
Wow, amazing! I can’t imagine how much time and planning it took for all those partial seams, but the result is spectacular! I love how you even matched the print pattern when it needed to be pieced.
