Hi,
I like the wonky log cabins you do a lot! I haven't come across another block that showcases pretty fabrics as well as this block. Especially when there's very little of a fabric or it's really expensive, I think this block if perfect to get the most of it!

Cheers,
Christine

You don't need to make your sewing machine higher, you need to lower your ironing board! Mine (which is a cheapo from Walmart) will lower down if you hold the trigger-handle, then lock into place. I set the lowered ironing board at a right angle to my sewing machine table, then I can just turn and press after piecing.

Hey Alissa: check out simply robin's blog--one of her posts shows her sewing arrangement: she pieces while standing up as well, puts her sewing machine on a big table set up for pressing. It's kind of cool. Personally, I have a rolling chair, and my cutting table is right behind my sewing machine so I keep rolling back and forth (like maybe a foot):P) and stand at the cutting table; the ironing board is also behind the sewing table right next to the cutting table so I have an efficient triangle going. (sound familiar? like kitchen planning? LOL) Every once in a while for a super-short seam, I've just kept standing at the sewing machine and even though I'm very short (5'2") I find it awkward :P. I do have the bed of the sewing machine level w/ the tabletop though so maybe those extra few inches might make a difference. I sure like a big seamless sewing table though.

Man. Your sense of color is so amazing. If you were teaching a class on color theory and color selection, I would totally take it.

I used to sew standing up - my machine and fabrics were in my laundry room, so I'd put my machine on top of the washer! Not great for large projects, (I do waaaay too much laundry) but it sure was easy on my back! Beautiful fabrics, it'll be a stunning quilt!

are you my twin? seriously. i cut as i go along. and yes, i do sew standing up. not all the time, but when i'm doing a lot of piecing, pressing and cutting, i will stack up books and magazines (a lot of them) and make two equal piles. then i plop my machine on top and sew like crazy. i like to do that for piecing, but wouldn't attempt it for quilting.

i LOVE your fabric selection. it's amazing!
