It’s HARD to make presents for people with different tastes from your own. At least I think it is! Two table runners (for my grandmother-in-law and stepmother-in-law) down:
And one more (for my mother-in-law), with a matching set of place mats, to go. I had to interrupt and make a couple of blocks that are more “me” before I dive back in…

I really think I need a layout wall like yours. I think it will help me see where I’m going and I will be more motivated and finish things faster. Your gifts look great!
They will love them though.
isn’t it hard to work on things when you “have” too? When I have gifts to make that aren’t my own taste, I seriously have to make myself sit down and sew. Wierd. But your table runners turned out cute. They look almost identical to the one I made for my mom in law, they must have the same taste!
Your runners are great – I’m sure they will be loved. Love your new blocks.
I completely agree with you. I can hardly buy fabric that isn’t my style, but I’m trying to get better at it cause everyone has different tastes and that’s okay! I keep convincing myself about this…
you did a great job on the runners! I agree, it IS hard to sew something for someone who has different tastes that you. in the end, though, it IS worth it.
They look great – even if not quite your speed
They will love them and always think of you when they are in use.
Aw, wow, I love both of those table runners, but especially the first one. I have several sets of fabric ready for table runners but can’t seem to find the time to get to them with all the other projects, baking and shopping going on. Great job with these!
I just found your blog, I love your quilts and writing. What beautiful gifts that you are making.
I agree, it is hard! You’ve done an excellent job though. However I like the “me” blocks much better, they are just gorgeous!
Hi! That fabric looks familiar! I met you last week buying fabric at Michael Levine’s, remember me? I wish that I had something to show already for my purchases, but I’m not as quick as you are…I just put it away last night.
One question, is your design wall a piece of felt against the wall? Does the fabric just stick to it? Seems so obvious, but I never thought of that before!
It was fun meeting someone from blogland in person!
Rita
PS Your freehand quilting is really amazing!
i hate to admit it, but i have sooo much trouble with that…using fabric i don’t love or that isn’t my taste. though i am loving collaborating on that redwork quilt with my mom, it’s so not my thing so it’s hard to stay motivated. please don’t tell…makes me feel so guilty even typing it.
