Scrap mania!
I’m taking my time and being very thorough with the sewing room set up. Yesterday that meant a major scrap sort!

I’m not great about using my little scraps but maybe if they are sorted by color I will? In any case, I have more than I’ll ever use and should give some to you. Comment with your two favorite colors and I’ll pick a couple of winners on Monday. A scrap pack will then be on it’s way to you! Good luck and happy weekend to you all!

i just moved, too & my sewing room is the last place to be put together. i like this idea for scraps since one huge bin is quite overwhelming.

Now that I’ve got such a great sewing space, I should really get my stash better organized. especially my scraps.

I could totally use the purple. I’m about to make a purple quilt for a friends new baby and would love to add those to the back of it! and well the lime. Lime is my favorite right now.

Does being organized make the same difference in your day as it does in mine? My favorite colors are brown and blue… they are both so calm and earthy to me. I am actually repainting my bedroom in those colors, and was thinking about making some items like pillows to coordinate. Have a great weekend!

Hey Alissa! I am totally loving purples and oranges right now. I don’t have much of either on my own but I think they would make a cool color combo for a spider web quilt.
On a side note–if you would rather donate your scraps I am working on a project for the Tennessee flood victims that uses blocks of 1 color from every color in the rainbow. I would be happy to use any of the scraps you don’t want anymore for this project and credit you for donating the fabric!

Green and orange – all the way! I never liked orange until my daughter adopted it as her favorite color and now I love it. You look so organized – I’m jealous. One of these days I’ll get my scraps into some kind of system. Now they’re just heaped/crammed/jammed into two wastebaskets under my cutting table.

I applaud you for taking time to set everything up so nicely. My closet is tidy, but not nearly as organized as you. I have good intentions, but once I set foot in my sewing room all I want to do is sew and any thoughts of cleaning or organizing fly right out the window!

I’ve been on an orange kick lately, loving deep, rich oranges. Really all deep, jewel colors! As for another color, blue is always my go-to favorite, but I’ll go with yellow since I realized how few yellow fabrics I have in my stash. thanks for the giveaway!
Right now I;m loving green and brown. Earth tones always appeal to me but bright is good too. It’s so hard to pick a favorite color….happy cleaning!

I know what I most gravitate toward, but would rather try something I might not be inclined to purchase. I recently saw a sample of purples and bright greens that caught my eye, so I would like to try those colors. Thank you for the nice offer.

My scraps are also sorted by color into boxes. It works great for me – if I’m evaluating a project/block and decide that it needs a bit of x color, I know where to look.
As for colors, I’m currently “collecting” for a red and aqua quilt.

I have my scraps sorted by shape. Probably not the most efficient way….color makes more sense. Love your little baskets. I am collecting red, white, blue scraps and small scale prints of any color for a couple of projects on the back burner. Thanks for the chance!
I sorted my scraps into plastic rolling carts with drawers. Each drawer holds a different color and I use a lot more of my scraps now!
My colors of 2010 so far are orange and aqua.

When sorting scraps I am always torn between three options: 1. Will I use the scrap bin to find that little piece of yellow for the center of my flower or 2. Will I be making a scrap quilt based on lights and darks or 3. Will I be looking for strips of fabrics of all colors.
Here’s my dilemma: for options 1, sort scraps by color, but for option 2, sort scraps light and dark and for options 3, sort by size and shape
So, do we have a red box, arranged by light and dark? Are the strips in with the triangles? How can we grab all the lights if they are all mixed in by color.
ARGH!!! and the big question is: Why dig for that itty bitty piece when I have HUGE yardage enough to last me 5 lifetimes???

Wow – you are so organised! And arranging by colour seems like a very sensible thing to do. I just love other people’s scraps – no matter what colour they are.
Okay… When I looked at the pre-sort colors I thought “how ingenious, the colors of the baskets are the color of the scraps” Now I’m confused, how did the green and blue scraps get in orange baskets? and the eggplant in yellow? Yes of course the scraps are yours and you can do what you wish with them, it may even assist in your creative process. As for me; and I am no way near this organized mind you; I would have to have the basket match the overall color of the scraps. Regardless of my opinion, good job! Way to start out in a new space on the right foot!!

Super cute, I have all my tiny scraps colour sorted as well but in small storage tubs with lids. There kept on top of my fabric wall unit so I find I don’t use them as much as the ones I have put in a scrap tub on the floor. Might have to re-think my system. Fave colours green and orange here. love the greens and neutrals (browns/blacks/greys/creams) (well, and i also love the blues and oranges… ok fine, i love all of them!) this is very inspiring – i’ve got overflowing clear bins filled with overflowing ziplock bags. and then when i do a new project, i have to dig through all of it to try to put anything away. this is so much smarter!

I know it’s all about the orange for you…..I’ve told you my childhood aversion to orange, what with Holly Hobbie’s orange haired friend bedroom decor and an orange-rust shag rug. So I guess it would have to be blue & green for me (I’d say purple but I am pretty sure you have no purple).

Oranges and browns make a great combo
GREEN & BROWN! my whole house is only decorated in them…sad to say. but they are my fav, especially together!
I have my scraps organized by colour now and I’m using them more than ever. Good luck with yours. I love blue and orange!

What a good idea to sort scraps by colour. They look much more enticing and I’m sure will help with inspiration. My favourite colours are brown and orange!
Scraps are so addictive once you get going with them! My faves are pink & grey.
I’m currently working on my first quilt, a very scrappy string quilt made of all kinds of scavenged bits and pieces, and my workspace is covered with piles of scraps sorted by color. Even though they’re among my favorite colors, I’m low on greys/blacks and yellows right now, unfortunately!

I love purple and red comes in second! 
Once I took the plunge and sorted all my scraps and had them out where I could see them at all times, their usefulness went up by a thousand percent. I use them all the time now because I can see what I have. My favorites are green and blue, and they are what I have the most of.
